Description

The Asian herpetological collections of the Instituto de Investigação Científica Tropical (IICT), currently housed in the Museu Nacional de História Natural e da Ciência (MUHNAC) are part of the scientific collections of the Universidade de Lisboa (UL), Portugal. This set of collections is represented by three independent collections: the Macau region collection, the East Timor collection, and the Portuguese India collection. It comprises a total of 313 records (341 specimens), representing 36 taxa (12 amphibians and 24 reptiles). These were collected between 1956 and 1989, either by targeted surveys promoted by the IICT or by fortuitous collections and donations by private individuals and researchers.

Data Records

The data in this occurrence resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 313 records.

This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.

Versions

The table below shows only published versions of the resource that are publicly accessible.

Project Data

No Description available

Title Cataloguing and Digitizing the Herpetological Collections of MUHNAC and IICT
Funding No funding was used.
Study Area Description The specimens are originary from the former Portuguese overseas territories in Asia, namelly Macau (currently a territory of the People's Republic of China), Timor Leste ( currently the independent country of Timor Leste, also known as Timor Loro Sae or East Timor), and the Portuguese enclaves of Goa (now part of the Republic of India).
Design Description The work consisted of cross checking the specimens and respective specimen labels, available field note books, catalogues and publications, to generate a consolidated electronic database. Taxonomic identity were reviewed following the most updated bibliography and in accordance with The Reptile Database [http://reptile-database.reptarium.cz/] and the Amphibia Species of the World v.6.0 [http://research.amnh.org/vz/herpetology/amphibia/] online databases. Once the database was prepared, the records pertaining to the Asian Herpetological collections of IICT were prepared for publication.
