The data in this sampling event resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. Data were collected in suitable rabbit habitats in all territories of the Bonelli's Eagle detected in the lower Sabor river valley and its main tributaries, from the river mouth up to 42 km upstream, in the municipalities of Torre de Moncorvo, Alfândega da Fé, Mogadouro and Macedo de Cavaleiros.

The dataset contains records of a key prey species of Bonelli’s Eagle (Aquila fasciata) and other large birds of prey, the Rabbit (Oryctolagus cuniculus, Mammalia), collected in the lower valley of River Sabor (NE Portugal), in the scope of the long-term Ecological Monitoring Program (PME) of the Baixo Sabor Hydroelectric Dams (AHBS), promoted by EDP – Energias de Portugal, S.A. This dataset includes results of line transects performed each season (winter, spring, summer and autumn) in the known territories of the Bonelli's Eagle in the lower Sabor river valley, from February 2010 to September 2014. Data consists of presence signs (scats, latrines) detected per transect surveyed, and includes more than 230 signs of presence of the Rabbit.

The dataset includes systematic observations collected in 8 transects located in the 4 territories of the Bonelli's Eagle located in the lower Sabor river valley (2 transects in each territory). Two 500-meter transects were surveyed by an observer moving slowly and recording all signs of presence (latrines, scattered droppings and burrows) on both sides of the transect. The figures presented, which measures the relative abundance of the target species, refer only to the number of latrines detected per transect.
