The dataset contains records of Phytobenthos (Diatoms) collected in the watershed of River Sabor, and included in the Ecological Monitoring Program (2015-2019) of the Environmental Impact Assessment of the Foz Tua Hydroelectric Dam, promoted by EDP – Energias de Portugal, S.A. Data were collected in the springs of 2015-2019 during field visits to three sampling points located upstream the reservoir, including the intersection with river Maçãs, 7 kms upstream. The present Ecological Monitoring Program (2015-2019) aims to evaluate the impacts of the onset of exploration phase in the water quality of the river. The occurrence of the target taxa was documented through 8449 records of species presence and number of individuals (valve counts).

Data were collected in spring/summer (June-July) of 2015-2019 during field visits to three sampling plots located upstream the dam reservoir. The occurrence of the target taxa was documented through 8449 records of species presence and number of individuals (valves). The most abundant species (> 200 individuals) were Cocconeis euglypta (1144), Fragilaria capucina (304), Navicula lanceolata (284), Cymbella affinis (230) and Achnanthidium minutissimum (220).

Методы сбора
Epilitic communities were sampled in accordance with the Sampling Protocol and analysis for phytobenthos - diatoms (INAG 2008). In each sampling point a number of stones totaling a colonized surface of ≈100 cm2 was examined, avoiding, whenever possible, the shaded areas, as well as the areas without current or with very high water velocity. All samples were fixed “in loco” with commercial formaldehyde (37%) and brought to laboratory, where they were subjected to the nitric acid method (INAG, 2008). All diatoms present were counted and identified up to the lowest possible taxonomic level using several floras, namely those of Germain (1981) and Krammer and Lange-Bertalot (1986, 1988, 1991a and 1991b), as well as the IBD manual (Prygiel and Coste, 2000).
