説明
The dataset contains records of terrestrial birds (Aves) collected in the lower valley of the River Tua and included in the Ecological Monitoring Program (2011) of the Environmental Impact Assessment of the Foz Tua Hydroelectric Dam, promoted by EDP – Energias de Portugal, S.A. Data were collected in the spring of 2011-2017 during field visits to 27 (2011) or 60 (>2012) sampling points with favourable habitats in 26 2x2 km squares within a 5-km radius buffer around the Tua valley, directly or indirectly affected by the Foz-Tua dam. All observations were made with binoculars and/or telescopes.

プロジェクトデータ
The dataset contains records of terrestrial birds (Aves) collected in plots along the lower Tua River valley and included in the Ecological Monitoring Program of the Foz Tua Hydroelectric Dam, promoted by EDP – Energias de Portugal, S.A. Data were collected between April and June 2011-2017, during field visits to 27 (2011) or 60 (>2012) sampling plots with favourable habitats for terrestrial birds in 26 2x2 km squares within a 5-km buffer around the lower Tua River valley. The occurrence of the target taxa was documented through 752 observation events. In total, 14269 observations were identified to the species rank. The most abundant species (> 500 individuals) were Fringilla coelebs (1528 individuals), Delichon urbicum (1367), Turdus merula (1070), Serinus serinus (876), Passer domesticus (815), Sylvia atricapilla (690), Sylvia melanocephala (632), Carduelis carduelis (539) and Parus major (514).

Study Area Description | The study was conducted in part of the sub-basin of river Tua affected by the Foz-Tua Hydroelectric Dam. The sampling was centered in suitable habitats for terrestrial birds in 26 2x2 km squares in a 5 km radius buffer around the future reservoir banks and up to 45 km from the Tua mouth. |
研究の意図、目的、背景など(デザイン) | The objective of the study was to monitor changes in the distribution patterns and abundances of species of birds in the area of the Foz Tua Hydroelectric Dam, prior to (2011) and during (2011-2016) the dam construction, and in the subsequent flooding of the river valley (2016-2017). |

収集方法
Sampling was designed to cover the main habitats for terrestrial birds along the lower Tua River valley affected by the Foz-Tua dam, including the future reservoir area. In the first year (2011), a total of 27 point counts distributed along the valley was used. From 2012 onwards, this number was increased to 60 points which were kept until the end of the monitoring period. In 2017, a partial renumeration took place, but the total number did not change. All plots were sampled once per spring and per year in the early morning or late afternoon. Each sampling event had 5 minutes of duration, in which all birds seen or heard in two bands of 50m around the point were recorded. Species identification and assessment of age and sex (when possible) were made “in loco”, with the help of appropriate field guides.
Study Extent | The data were collected within a 5-km buffer around the Tua lower valley (Northeast Portugal), up to 45 km from the mouth, in the municipalities of Alijó, Carrazeda de Ansiães, Murça, Mirandela and Vila Flor. |
