Description
The dataset contains records of Vascular Flora and Habitats collected the scope of the Complementary Studies (2010-11) and the baseline year (i.e., before construction) of the Ecological Monitoring Program of the Environmental Impact Assessment of the Foz Tua Hydroelectric Dam, promoted by EDP – Energias de Portugal, S.A. Data were collected in the spring 2011, during field visits to 24 sampling points, distributed along the river Tua valley, from the mouth to 52 km upstream.
Data Records
The data in this sampling event resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 24 records.
1 extension data tables also exist. An extension record supplies extra information about a core record. The number of records in each extension data table is illustrated below.
This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.
Versions
The table below shows only published versions of the resource that are publicly accessible.

Project Data
The dataset contains records of Vascular plants (Plantae) collected in the scope of the Ecological and Complementary Studies (2010-2011) of the Environmental Impact Assessment of the Foz Tua Hydroelectric Dam, promoted by EDP – Energias de Portugal, S.A. The data were also used to establish the baseline year (pre-construction) of the Ecological Monitoring Program of the construction and flooding phases of the dam (2011-2017). Data were collected in spring (June) of 2011, during field visits to 24 sampling plots located along the lower Tua valley, up to 52 km upstream. The occurrence of the target taxa was documented through 757 records of species presence and percentage cover. The species which presented the highest percentage cover was Quercus suber (3.76% of the total sampled area), followed by Quercus illex ballota (2.12%). All the remaining species occupied less than 1% of the total cover.
Title | EDP Foz-Tua: Vascular Flora – Complementary Studies and Baseline Year of the Ecological Monitoring Program [2011] |

Identifier | EDP Biodiversity Data |
Funding | The work was funded by EDP - Energias de Portugal, S.A. |
Study Area Description | The study was conducted in part of the sub-basin of river Tua affected by the Foz-Tua Hydroelectric Dam. The sampling was centered in a set of fixed plots around the future reservoir banks and up to 52 km from the Tua mouth. |
Design Description | The objective of the study was to characterize the biodiversity of the vascular flora in the Tua valley, from the river’s mouth to the upstream limit of the future reservoir, during the dam construction (2011-2016) and in the flooding period (2016-2017). |

Sampling Methods
Sampling was based on plant inventories in permanent 50 m2 sampling plots, with production of a floristic list and quantitative assessment of the degree of coverage (in percentage) and density (number of individuals per meter square, in a semi-quantitative scale) of vascular plants. In this dataset, only the percentage cover was used.
Study Extent | The data were collected along the Tua lower valley (Northeast Portugal), up to 52 km from the mouth, in the municipalities of Alijó, Carrazeda de Ansiães, Murça, Vila Flor and Mirandela |
