Description
The dataset contains records of Vascular Flora and Habitats collected the scope of the Ecological and Complementary Measures Monitoring Programs (2012-2017) of the Environmental Impact Assessment of the Foz Tua Hydroelectric Dam, promoted by EDP – Energias de Portugal, S.A. Data were collected in the spring 2012-2014, during field visits to a variable number of sampling points, depending of the year (range: 124-137), distributed along the river Tua valley, from the mouth to 52km upstream. This dataset includes most of construction phase (2012-2015). A total of 29424 records of species and infra-species categories was obtained.
Data Records
The data in this sampling event resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 796 records.
1 extension data tables also exist. An extension record supplies extra information about a core record. The number of records in each extension data table is illustrated below.
This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.
Versions
The table below shows only published versions of the resource that are publicly accessible.

Project Data
The dataset contains records of Vascular plants (Plantae, Tracheophyta) collected in the scope of the Ecological and Complementary Measures Monitoring Programs (2012-2017) of the Environmental Impact Assessment of the Foz Tua Hydroelectric Dam, promoted by EDP – Energias de Portugal, S.A. Data were collected in spring (April-July) of 2012-2014, during field visits to a variable number of sampling plots, depending of the year (range: 124-137), located along the lower Tua valley, up to 52km upstream. The occurrence of the target taxa was documented through 29424 records of species and infra-species categories present. The most common species (>20% of cover in all sampling quadrats) were Quercus suber (82.3%), Q. rotundifolia (75.4%), Fraxinus angustifolia (52.3%), Cytinus multiflorus (39.1%), Alnus glutinosa (22.1%), Celtis australis (22%) and Rubus ulmifolius (21.8%).

Funding | The work was funded by EDP - Energias de Portugal, S.A. |
Study Area Description | The study was conducted in part of the sub-basin of river Tua affected by the Foz-Tua Hydroelectric Dam. The sampling was centered in a variable number of plots around the future reservoir banks and up to 52km from the Tua mouth. |
Design Description | The objective of the study was to characterize the biodiversity of the vascular flora in the Tua valley, from the river’s mouth to the upstream limit of the future reservoir, during the dam construction (2012-2015) and in the flooding period (2016-2017). All plots were attributed to one (or both) of two categories: Ecological Monitoring Program (EMP) or Complementary Measures Monitoring Program (CMP). This dataset includes only the construction phase, up to 2014. |

Sampling Methods
Sampling was based on plant inventories in permanent 50 m2 sampling plots, with production of a floristic list and quantitative assessment of the degree of coverage (in percentage) and density (number of individuals per meter square, in a semi-quantitative scale) of vascular plants. However, only the percentage cover was used in this dataset. The number of sampling plots varied along the study period: 124 in 2012; 129 in 2013; and 137 in 2014.
Study Extent | The data were collected along the Tua lower valley (Northeast Portugal), up to 52 km from the mouth, in the municipalities of Alijó, Carrazeda de Ansiães, Murça, Vila Flor and Mirandela. |
