Descrição
The dataset contains records of Vascular Flora and Habitats collected the scope of the Ecological and Complementary Measures Monitoring Programs (2012-2017) of the Environmental Impact Assessment of the Foz Tua Hydroelectric Dam, promoted by EDP – Energias de Portugal, S.A. Data were collected in the spring 2015-2017, during field visits to a variable number of sampling points, depending of the year (range: 112-145), distributed along the river Tua valley, from the mouth to 52km upstream. This dataset includes the final stages of the construction phase (2015-2016) and the flooding phase (2016-2017). A total of 16421 records of plant species or infra-specific categories was produced.

This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.

Dados Sobre o Projeto
The dataset contains records of Vascular plants (Plantae) collected in the scope of the Ecological and Complementary Measures Monitoring Programs (2012-2017) of the Environmental Impact Assessment of the Foz Tua Hydroelectric Dam, promoted by EDP – Energias de Portugal, S.A. Data were collected in spring (April-July) of 2015-2017, during field visits to a variable number of sampling plots, depending of the year (range: 112-145), located along the lower Tua valley, up to 52km upstream. The occurrence of the target taxa was documented through 162141records of species presence and percentage cover. The most abundant species (>10 of the total % cover) are Quercus suber (43.5%), Q. rotundifolia (38.7%), Fraxinus angustifolia (28.8%), Cytinus multiflorus (17.9%), Celtis australis (13.2%), Alnus glutinosa (12%) and Rubus ulmifolius (11.9%).

Descrição da Área de Estudo | The study was conducted in part of the sub-basin of river Tua affected by the Foz-Tua Hydroelectric Dam. The sampling was centered in a variable number of plots around the future reservoir banks and up to 52km from the Tua mouth. |
Descrição do Design | The objective of the study was to characterize the biodiversity of the vascular flora in the Tua valley, from the river’s mouth to the upstream limit of the future reservoir, during the final phase of the dam construction (2015-2016) and in the flooding period (2016-2017). All plots were attributed to one (or both) of two categories: Ecological Monitoring Program (PME) or Complementary Measures Monitoring Program (PMC). This dataset includes the end of the construction phase (2015-2016) and the flooding phase (2016-2017). |

Métodos de Amostragem
Sampling was based on plant inventories in permanent 50 m2 sampling plots, with production of a floristic list and quantitative assessment of the degree of coverage (in percentage) and density (number of individuals per meter square, in a semi-quantitative scale) of vascular plants. However, only the percentage cover was used in this dataset. The number of sampling plots varied along the study period: 145 in 2015; 139 in 2016 and 112 in 2017.
Área de Estudo | The data were collected along the Tua lower valley (Northeast Portugal), up to 52km from the mouth, in the municipalities of Alijó, Carrazeda de Ansiães, Murça, Vila Flor and Mirandela |
