Specimens of Huffmanela lusitana sp n. are preserved, as laid eggs in epaxial and hypaxial muscles of pouting, Trisopterus luscus (L.), of the collection of Pathology of IPMA, either as frozen tissue or in neutral buffered formalin. Pouting was captured using bottom trawl and gillnets, at the North East Atlantic Coast, between Figueira da Foz and Cabo da Roca. Pathological findings, microscopic and ultrastructural characteristics, egg features, host-parasite interaction at muscle level and a new host on a new geographic area, all suggest that a new species is involved.

取樣方法
Infected pouting were captured using bottom trawl and gillnets. Morphological Huffmanela lusitana eggs were performed on wet-mounted slides without coverslip pressure. For Scanning electronic microscopy, eggs were rinsed by pipetting and and routinely processed. SEM photographs were taken with JEOL5200-LV electronic microscope.

- Morphological Huffmanela lusitana eggs were performed on wet-mounted slides without coverslip pressure. For Scanning electronic microscopy, eggs were rinsed by pipetting and and routinely processed. SEM photographs were taken with JEOL5200-LV electronic microscope. Muscle samples of all specimens were collected and dehydrated in a graded series of ethanol and embedded in paraffin for histological procedures.
