The data in this sampling event resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 462 records.
1 extension data tables also exist. An extension record supplies extra information about a core record. The number of records in each extension data table is illustrated below.
This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.
Download the latest version of this resource data as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A) or the resource metadata as EML or RTF:
The table below shows only published versions of the resource that are publicly accessible.

This dataset is the output of a national waterbird monitoring programme coordinated by ICNF that collects information on the number and distribution of waterbirds at wetland sites in Portugal and is part of the International Waterbird Census project (African-Eurasian Waterbird Census – Europe).
|Funding||This work was co-fund by ICNF, I.P. and the European Union, through the Environment Operational Programme (application 1.1/00021– Documentos Estruturantes da Conservação da Natureza e da Biodiversidade). The preparation of this resource for publication through GBIF was supported by Project PORBIOTA—Portuguese E-Infrastructure for Information and Research on Biodiversity (POCI-01-0145-FEDER-022127), under the Operational Thematic Program for Competitiveness and Internationalization (POCI), under the PORTUGAL 2020 Partnership Agreement, through the European Regional Development Fund (FEDER) and FCT.|
The personnel involved in the project:
Waterbird annual counts in natural and man-made wetlands in mainland Portugal.
|Study Extent||The geographic area considered Portugal Mainland. The species included are birds observed in wetland sites (Accipitriformes, Anseriformes, Charadriiformes, Ciconiiformes, Falconiformes, Galliformes, Gruiformes, Otidiformes, Pelecaniformes, Phoenicopteriformes, Podicipediformes, Strigiformes, Suliformes).|
|Quality Control||In the preparation of the dataset for GBIF publication, data consistency was verified using OpenRefine.|
Method step description:
- Preparation of the dataset for GBIF publication used as source the geographic layer in shape file format. The spatial layer and centroids were converted to geographic coordinates using WGS84 and WKT was determined for the polygons. The file was exported to a csv file and attributes reinterpreted to matching DwC standard terms.
