Description

In 2022 and 2023, the CoastalWarming research team at CIBIO, in Portugal, surveyed the intertidal biodiversity of rocky shores along the North Atlantic coast, from Scotland to Morocco. The sampling protocol encompassed two approaches to identify and estimate the abundance of the main macrospecies typifying each shore: (i) quadrat sampling and (ii) SACFOR scaling. Some specimens were collected to confirm identifications with a magnifying lens.

Data Records

The data in this sampling event resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 101 records.

2 extension data tables also exist. An extension record supplies extra information about a core record. The number of records in each extension data table is illustrated below.

This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.

Title Biodiversity data from rocky intertidal zones, surveyed from Scotland to Morocco in 2022 and 2023

Sampling Methods

Two sampling approaches were implemented: quadrat sampling (a quantitative method) and SACFOR scaling (a semi-quantitative method that employs a categorical scale with six levels).

Study Extent Between 2022 and 2023, a one-time observation survey was conducted on rocky intertidal shores from Scotland to Morocco to collect biodiversity data.

Method step description:

  1. Information from the original documents was preserved except for a few observations. Those corrections are clarified in the occurrenceRemarks field.
